Two of the chiefs were representatives of the Damro tribe while the third came from the Dambuk tribe, the three being preceded by a courier who had been entrusted with a message of peace to Mr. Dundas. This message took the form of a sword and a spearhead, bent double, which was the symbol of peace among the Padams.
